The woman, suffering from labor pains, called her husband. He, holding his mistress in one hand and the telephone in the other, replied coldly: “If it’s a girl, I don’t want to raise her; she’ll only be a burden on the house… Go live with your parents!” Then he clammed up.

Mr. Walker,” said the calm man. “You arrived just in time.”

“In time for what? Where is Emily? And the child?”

“Mrs. Walker is safe and sound. Her daughter is also healthy. Her name is Grace. Rather fitting, don’t you think?”

Jason let out a small, embarrassed laugh. “I told him to go to his parents’ house. I don’t think he’ll go that fast. Okay. I’ll change the locks.”

The expression on Mr. Reynolds’ face did not change.

“That won’t be necessary. This property belongs to Mrs. Walker.”

Jason’s smile faded.

“What are you talking about? I bought this house.”

“With funds from her family trust,” the lawyer replied calmly. “You signed a prenuptial agreement five years ago. Complete separation of assets. In the event of proven infidelity, she gives up emotionally, but retains exclusive rights to the inheritance and any joint business interests financed by her inheritance.”

Jason felt the blood running down his face.

“Infidelity? You can’t prove anything.”

The lawyer opened his briefcase and handed him several glossy photos.

Jason instantly recognized the hotel suite in Aspen. In one photo, he and Brittany were hanging out together on the balcony. In another, they were undeniably close.
