10 signs your kidneys aren’t working properly (1/4)

Warning: If you have dry, itchy skin, moisturize more often. Remember to consult your doctor before taking any medication to relieve itching. Some medications contain ingredients that can further damage kidney function.

Problems with bad breath and a metallic taste. When waste products accumulate in the blood, the taste of food changes, leaving a metallic aftertaste in the mouth. Bad breath is another symptom of excess toxins and pollutants in the blood. Additionally, you may lose your appetite for meat and generally experience a loss of appetite, which can lead to unhealthy weight loss.

Warning: There are several reasons why food may taste metallic (from allergies to poor oral hygiene). This metallic taste usually disappears once the underlying cause is treated. If it persists, consult your doctor.

Shortness of breath. The link between kidney disease and breathing difficulties, especially after minimal exertion, is due to two factors. First, when the kidneys are not functioning properly, excess fluid from the body enters the lungs. Second, anemia deprives the body of oxygen, leading to breathing difficulties.

Warning: Shortness of breath can have many causes, from kidney failure and asthma to lung cancer and heart failure. If you experience persistent shortness of breath even after some exercise, you should see your doctor immediately.
